Jeff Newman from Boksburg
Jeff Newman , a 49 year old Scot, has lived in South Africa for 24 years. Jeff has always had a passion for wildlife, however, his interest, or obsession, some would call it, with Wild Dogs, began during a trip to the Kruger National Park in 2001.
" Whilst travelling between the Sabie and Sand Rivers, just outside Skukuza, I came across two Wild Dogs fighting over a discarded plastic garbage bag, I thought about what could happen should one of them ingest a piece of the bag, and although against the rules, I got out of my vehicle and removed the bag out of the mouths of the Wild Dogs. Moments later I found myself having to explain to an astonished park ranger, the end result of which, was an entry into the Skukuza Incident Book. This was the catalyst that made me realise that being a working man focused on supporting a family , I may never be afforded the opportunity to work hands on with these magnificent creatures, but that I could, in some way, help those who do. "
Jeff decided to raise funds for the EWT's Carnivore Conservation Group, in his local community using his network of friends and colleagues. Jeff placed collection tins in various outlets in and around Boksburg and he encouraged his family to donate all their loose change at home to the cause. Not satisfied with that, Jeff began lobbying his friends who attended the "Robin Banks and Associaties of Mind Power" course to nominate EWT as a beneficiary. Thanks to Jeff and his friends Marshall and Jane Todd of Jeans House of Hair and Jose Ferreirinha, of Manuton Computer Care , two donations have been made to the Carnivore Conservation Group. Thanks to Jeff's committment and determination, he has assisted in raising close to R30 000 for the EWT through his fundraising efforts.
